Mission
The mission of the Illinois College Contemporary Art Gallery is to encourage appreciation and understanding of art and its role in society through direct engagement with artists and the display of their works. The primary goal of the students curating this exhibit is to bring together a diverse selection of artists from across the globe, at different points in their lives and careers, into one online gallery space. We based our three categories (currents) off of the definitions in Terry Smith's book, Contemporary Art: Work Currents. The aim of this gallery is to create avenues for students to engage with the contemporary art world in a way that goes beyond its depictions in the media, and encourage active learning about the creative process through dialogue among communities of students, faculty, artists, scholars, alumni, and the wider public.
